My S&W 9mm is that way.
The de-cocker acts as a safety and lowers the hammer.
IMO its just a "feel good" devise so folks don't have to carry with the hammer back.
So had my Taurus 24/7 9mm for about a month or so now. Was reading through the manual (again). Not quite sure I understand the purpose of a de-cocker on a DA/SA striker fired pistol. On a hammer fired pistol it makes sense. The 24/7 fires in single action mode, unless de-cocker or a click and no bang happens. Then it reverts to double action for the next trigger pull (tallman can verify as he was checking it out at the last Houston meet).

The de-cocker just lowers the hammer so that if the weapon where to fall and land on the hammer it will not discharge.
It also is one of the stupid laws that make morons feel better.
Again, if you live under the premise that all of the safeties are broken and don't work
you will have the safest trigger finger ever.

I don't own any such handguns, but I would think that maybe the decocking feature would be beneficial if you ever had to carry the gun loose in your console, glovebox, backpack, etc....the full DA pull would make it a bit safer from errant fingers or items that might find their way into the trigger guard. I dunno....just a guess.
How do you like the 24/7, I have a friend looking to buy one.
I like it, for 350 brand new I cant complain, glockish without the weird grip (nothing against glock the grips just bugs me). 17+1 cap. Mags are 40 bucks a pop though. Not a ton of holster options either. Simple take down, I hav'nt had any issues with it.
Sweet I'll pass on the info
All my pistols are de-cockers if aimed right.
Can't get smilies to work. Rats.
To those who say I am a pessimist, I say you are being way too optomisitic.

By definition, Gun Conrol is all rounds on target.
I am still willing to shoot a Glock; just hang it up with the rest of the targets.
