The cop has my respect. Not an easy thing to follow an armed bad guy into a fight. I hope he is okay.
I will update as I know any more.

Exchange of Gunfire at a Wal-Mart, One Officer Shot in the Chest | KIII TV3 - News, Sports, Weather South Texas, Corpus Christi | Texas News
By JEFF CARLTON
Associated Press Writer
DALLAS (AP) - An off-duty officer shot in the chest after
exchanging gunfire with a man outside a Texas WalMart expects to be
released from the hospital.
Delta County Deputy Paul Robertson was texting friends and
talking on the telephone Monday, a day after he fatally shot an
armed man trying to enter a WalMart in the east Texas town of
Commerce. Authorities haven't identified the shooting suspect, who
they say fired at officers during a police chase moments before
trying to enter the store.
Sheriff Gerald Teague said Robertson was sore but ready to go
home. He was shot on the right side of his chest.
Teague said Robertson "obviously saved lives."
The shootout Sunday in Commerce began when police received a
call that shots had been fired from a car in nearby Greenville,
about 50 miles northeast of Dallas.
Told yall I would up date w/ any new info I got from Greenville.
Here is an Email by the officers wife to some of her friends. One of my cousins in Greenville received this.
Speaks volumns for carrying a reload. Again I have talked to many officers & a few citizens involved in shootings. I have read the account of unnumbered shootings. Two things I have never heard said, "Wish I had my little KelTec cause this one was too heavy".
"Wish I had left those extra mags home cause they are too heavy."
Here is the Email. Thank you Lord for grace & thank you Paul for your service.
Hello to all!
I typed in a few email addresses that I could remember off the top of my head considering I still have AMPLE adrenaline rushing through my body. Feel free to share this email with others at ComCept. Though I know I have several sarcastic emails waiting for me in my inbox from Greer ($1.....$0.10) (HA!), I think I might actually have a good excuse this time for standing him up at our 0730 Monday morning IMS meeting!
Yesterday Paul, Christian, and I went to do our weekly grocery shopping trip to the Commerce Walmart. We had wrapped up our shopping, Paul with one buggy and Christian and I with another buggy full of groceries, and were headed to the front registers when a young man (20's) ran screaming down our aisle "RUN MA'AM! HE'S GOT A GUN!" The boy was too scared for it to have been a prank. Paul shifted into cop-mode (wait.....I don't think he's ever OUT of cop-mode) and ordered for me to run to the back of the store with the baby. I SPRINTED, buggy, baby, and groceries to the back along with countless other employees and customers and piled into the back stock room. Lots of gunshots began firing and we all went outside of the store where the big trucks unload. We hid behind a stack of wooden pallets, still hearing the gunfire. I prayed out loud. Minutes later Paul called me on his cell phone and it was difficult to make out his words with the background noise. He told me he'd been shot, but he was okay, the bullet had gone right through him. He said everything was okay, the bad guy was dead, and that I needed to get Christian and walk to the front of the store and get the truck keys. Shaking and soaking wet from the rain I took the baby around the outside of the store, through numerous emergency vehicles, past the dead bad guy, and asked an officer for our truck keys. We pointed out our truck to the officer and were told to not move until he came to talk to us.
All the while, Paul's side of the story is much more interesting. When the young boy had screamed "HE'S GOT A GUN!", Paul ran through the produce section hiding behind what he could and made his way where the buggies were. At this point the bad guy was around the front registers, but was making his way back to the foyer. Paul tried to sneak around to find the guy, but ended up face-to-face with him in an open area with no cover whatsoever. Paul was carrying a .357 6-shot revolver and the bad guy had an AK-47 in one hand and a 9mm in the other screaming "SHOOT ME! SHOOT ME!" Paul screamed for him to put the gun down, but instead the two exchanged gun fire and Paul was shot, but still standing and firing. Paul unloaded all 6 rounds hitting the guy several times, but not stopping him. At one point the double sliding glass doors had closed and Paul was shooting through glass, softening his rounds. A Commerce PD officer fired a shot at the bad guy with a 12-gauge, diverting his attention outside instead of onto Paul. Another shot with the 12-gauge killed the bad guy.
Paul was shot with the 9mm through the chest. The bullet entered just under his right pectoral muscle and exited about 6 inches under his armpit. It was a clean shot and did not hit any organs or ribs. The bullet curved inside his body just missing his lung and rib. Paul has staples on the exit point and it is horribly bruised. Paul was care-flighted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler where he received care in the trauma unit. I stayed with him overnight. My parents were there by our side the entire time. They came to Walmart yesterday to pick up Christian, Christian stayed with Mom while Dad drove me to Tyler, Dad came back to Tyler this morning to drive Paul and me home, and even brought Paul an extra weapon as a "security blanket"! Paul is in excellent condition, all things considered. He lives a very healthy lifestyle and its paying off. He is sore and tired right now, but is moving just fine.
Thank all of you for your prayers! God is REAL and He answers prayers! Let this event be a testimony of how God really works. I have a totally different perspective on my life now. Things that seemed like they mattered before, don't. The thing that really matters is that my baby girl still has a Daddy and I still have a husband. To Christian and me, Paul is our Superman.....our real-live superhero! I am so thankful for the lives he saved yesterday.
Please feel free to email, text, or call at any time.
Thank you!
Kristi

Whew, all my best to this officer and his family....Terrible that he got hurt, but it was lucky he was there when he was or else things would have been much worse with a lot of innocent people being hurt or killed....
Very heroic actions. Salute.
