My wife and I were in Corpus Monday doing some shopping. It was our son's first day at daycare and was a good day to spend some wife and hubby time. My wife was going back to work tuesday (today) and wanted to look for some new work clothes. We went to a few different places and ended up in Kohl's. While she was wandering looking for clothes I was following her around, keeping my awareness level up (as this is Corpus ya know). A group of people come in, 3 ladies and 1 man (at least I think he was with the 3 ladies, something about him caught my attention), red untucked shirt, scragly looking, unkept appearance. The man walks around the store sevral times and had passes the area we were about 3 times and then I didn't see them anymore and figured they left. She found a few items and said she was going to try them on. I told her I'd be around looking at stuff. I wandered to the men's section, to baby clothes, over to shoes and back. She had come out and was looking for more items. She found some and went back in to try them on.
I decided it was time to find the restroom. I walk over by customer service and there's quite the line. I walk past the people and into the restroom. It was dead silent. No one in sight. I have a habit of looking to see if anyone is in the restrooms just so no one pops up and scares the poop out of me. I start obviously with open areas and then look to the floors by the stalls for feet to indicate someone there. if I see none I walk to the end and make sure there is no one there. As I walk in no one in sight. No water running or evidence anyone was just there. No feet on the floor. The hair on the back of my neck stands up all of a sudden, I walk towards the end of the bathroom using the mirror to see angles ahead of me and as I near the last stall door I thought I saw something red and I look to my right towards the door (away from the mirrior) and see the scraggly man sitting on top of the toilet legs perched on the seat. The man jumps off and quickly heads towards me (we are about 6 feet apart), my mind goes to the fit is about to hit the shan. The look on his face and body language is aggressive as he continues towards me and brushed right past me as I was stepping back and away towards the sinks. He was now between me and the door and thankfully he continued right on out at a rather fast pace.
I took a huge deep breath and realized I had no clue where this guy was now. My adrenaline was pumping and I was trying to process what just happened. Was this guy really coming after me, what was he doing on the toilet? I looked in the stall and didn't see anything and figured he may have been using drugs and I walked in on him or he was waiting to prey on someone.
I remember after the fact that I had looked at his hands and saw no weapon that was visible in that blink of an eye. I did subconsciously keep my gun side turned away from him, and thinking create distance if you can. Somehow got my self boxed in in the process and thankfully it did not escelate from there. I think he wanted out of there as much as I did at that point.
I left, found my wife, she paid for her stuff and we exited the store. Never saw the guy again inside or out.

No it was not 30.06 and I was armed but didn't feel I could have drawn in that short of distance anyway. I never once thought "I need my gun right now". Had it escelated or I discovered he had a weapon that thought would have changed probably very quickly but my gun was not my first thought. trying to creat distance was (I guess subconsciously in case I had to draw)
